Britt Reid, the Kansas City Chief’s outside linebackers coach, has been hospitalized after a car crash he was involved in on Thursday, which has caused him to not be able to coach at the Super Bowl on Sunday.

The 35-year-old hit two parked cars on a ramp on Interstate 435 just outside of the team’s practice facility in Kansas City. The first vehicle ran out of gas, while the second pulled over and parked to help.

Reid first hit the left front of the first vehicle and then rear-ended the second, which caused non-life-threatening injuries to a 4-year-old and life-threatening injuries to a 5-year-old, according to the police report.

“According to the police officer statement, a KCPD officer said Reid's eyes were bloodshot and that the officer smelled ‘a moderate odor of alcoholic beverages.’ The statement went on to say Reid told the officer that he had had two to three drinks and that he also took prescription Adderall,” ESPN reported.

While he himself didn't suffer from any life-threatening injuries, he did complain of stomach pains, which lead him to his hospitalization. The Chiefs will be leaving for Tampa Bay Saturday and Reid won't be joining them.

"The organization has been made aware of a multi-vehicle accident involving Outside Linebackers Coach, Britt Reid," the Chiefs said in a statement Friday. "We are in the process of gathering information, and we will have no further comment at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved," the organization explained.

The assistant coach admitted to drinking alcohol before the crash, an NBC affiliate KSHB reported after obtaining the search warrant from Thursday night.

This isn't the first time the assistant coach has had trouble with the law. Reid pleaded guilty to DUI and drug charges in 2008 and pleaded guilty to flashing a gun at another driver in 2007.

Reid is the son of the Cheif’s head coach, Andy Reid, who took his team to the Super Bowl last year and won. He joined the team in 2013 and has been the defensive assistant coach, the assistant defensive line coach and now, the outside linebackers coach.

No information will be available about the investigation until after the Super Bowl.
