Jennifer Lopez "didn't think it was in her best interests" to continue her relationship with Alex Rodriguez, according to a report.

Lopez and Rodriguez announced last week that they decided to call off their two-year engagement and said they realized they were better as friends than lovers. Now, People reported, citing multiple unnamed insiders, that it was the 51-year-old singer-actress who ended their relationship.

A friend of Lopez told the outlet that the pop diva could no longer fully "trust" the former MLB player, 45.

"[Lopez] insisted on it. There are too many issues that are unresolved," the source told the outlet of their split. "She has been pretty miserable and didn't think it was in her best interests to stay with Alex."

A different source also told E! News that Rodriguez broke Lopez's trust and that she "has not been happy for a while now."

"Once her trust is broken, there's no turning around," the source told the outlet. "She feels good about her decision because she knows A.Rod will still be in her life, just in a different capacity."

Lopez and Rodriguez's split first made headlines last month after several outlets reported that they had already called it quits. However, they immediately released a statement saying they were "working through some things."

Rodriguez then flew to the Dominican Republic to reunite with Lopez, who had been filming her upcoming movie "Shotgun Wedding" in the country in the past weeks. They were later seen packing on the PDA in their balcony after their reunion in the Caribbean.

But just weeks later, Rodriguez and Lopez decided to end their relationship for good. However, they suggested that they will continue working together in their joint business ventures.

"We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so," they wrote in their joint statement. "We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. We wish the best for each other and one another's children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support."
