Princess Diana once gave up a luxury item that she fought hard to get for the sake of the royal family.

Even though the Princess of Wales didn’t have a pleasant relationship with Prince Charles’ relatives, she still tried to do good by them. In the book “Diana: Her True Story In Her Own Words,” royal author Andrew Morton revealed that Princess Diana’s decision also came after security officials advised her to do so.

The mom of Prince William and Prince Harry’s used to own a Mercedes sports car. But due to the ongoing security threats, she decided to let go of the vehicle.

“She felt ill-at-ease driving such an ostentatious car during a time of economic hardship for many British people. On a practical level, the distinctive sports car was something of a security headache,” Morton said.

Princess Diana’s sports car was easily spotted by the paparazzi, who made their living by following the late royal everywhere she went. The Princess of Wales’ bodyguards also pointed out the fact that if the paparazzi knew where Princess Diana was, everyone else would know where she is.

But after Princess Diana divorced Prince Charles, things just got worse for the royal in terms of her security. Patrick Jephson, Princess Diana’s former staff, previously told Fox News that the late royal became reckless with her security after her divorce.

Princess Diana reportedly cut herself off from her support system from time to time when they were the ones who were responsible for keeping her safe. Jephson said that he never really understood why the Princess of Wales had to do something like that, but he has his own thoughts about it.

Jephson said that Princess Diana seemingly wanted to make a contrast between herself and the other members of the royal family. And one of the ways she did it was by getting rid of her bodyguards and her support organization.
