Will Donald Trump Face Criminal Charges? Michael Cohen Continues Focus On Ex-President's Legal Problems

Donald Trump's former fixer Michael Cohen has issued a dire prediction for his past boss's legal future, saying that New York prosecutors have “unprecedented” access to tax records, which according to Cohen will expose the Trump organization to never-before-seen levels of scrutiny.

Prosecutors are still reviewing the trove of documents. The Supreme Court authorized their release in February, something Trump fought for years to prevent. Cohen says that the records are likely to pose a grave threat to Trump.

"The level of review is unprecedented in Trump's corporate history," he said.

Cohen called the inquiry by Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. "a proctological exam of the highest order." The Manhattan office is looking into whether the Trump Organization engaged in tax, banking and insurance fraud.

Vance Jr. himself has remained relatively quiet. When the records were authorized for review, his only statement was: “The work continues.”

Cohen had previously predicted the investigation would put Trump in jail, telling Trump to buy a "custom made jumpsuit.” In a book released in September, Cohen described Trump as "a cheat, a mobster, a liar, a fraud, a bully, a racist, a predator, a con man."

Meanwhile, the district attorney's office in Fulton County, Georgia, on Tuesday opened a grand jury investigation in response to Trump's effort to allegedly overturn the state's 2020 election results.

New York attorney general Letitia James is reportedly leading a civil investigation into the Trump family's finances.

Vance’s inquiry was originally focused only on payments before the 2016 election to silence women alleging they had affairs with Trump, but has since expanded. With tax records in hand, it now seeks evidence of tax evasion, insurance fraud and bank fraud.

Trump himself called it “ a continuation of the greatest political witch hunt in the history of our country."

"The Supreme Court never should have let this 'fishing expedition' happen, but they did," he said after the Supreme Court’s ruling.
