Fans are really annoyed about the delay of the “Winds of Winter” release date, and George RR Martin knows it. In a recent interview, the celebrity author talked about how he has witnessed the impatience of the fans online and he also explained why the book is getting delayed.

In a recent interview with NPR, Martin admitted that the fans are losing their patience due to the delay, and he pointed out that a section of the fan base has become “snarky about it.” The author said that he could probably find a person who has posted “150 messages” online in three days, all of them about asking when the next book will be released.

Martin has also seen that whenever a fan posts a message about meeting the author at an event like Chicago Public Library Sandburg Award dinner, the third reply to the post would be about a fan complaining about what Martin was doing at the event instead of finishing “Winds of Winter.” The author joked that he should stop the interview and head back to writing.

While the fans have been waiting for the next book in “A Song of Ice and Fire,” Martin explained that it is equally important for him to finish both the remaining books. However, he explained that he wanted to “finish it strong,” so that people will feel that the whole body of his work is important rather than feeling that it is a “half-finished” or “broken work.”

In a previous interview with WGN Radio, Martin had said that it is gratifying to know that there are millions of fans who are waiting for the next book. However, he wished he could get back to being a writer who could work in quite obscurity.

In another interview with Dan Jones, Martin said that he will be writing more “Dunk and Egg” stories and a sequel to “Fire and Blood.” However, he promised to release “Winds of Winter” before taking on some of these other writing projects.
