  • Conagra Brands has recalled some of its salad dressings
  • The products contain an undeclared allergen
  • The company has not received reports of illnesses related to the products

Chicago-based Conagra Brands has recalled "a limited amount" of its Wish-Bone salad dressings. They contain an undeclared allergen.

The problem with the recalled products was that they contain egg, which was not declared on the label, the company announced on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website. It means that someone with an egg sensitivity or allergy may experience a potentially "serious or life-threatening" allergic reaction if they consume the product.

Eggs are among the most common food allergens, with egg allergies being one of the most common food allergies, particularly in children, the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology (ACAAI) noted.

Since egg is often a "hidden ingredient" in many food items, those with egg allergies have to be quite careful while checking the labels of the foods they eat. In fact, egg is one of the eight allergens that are to be included "in clear language" on labels of products sold in the U.S.

"The severity of egg allergy reactions can vary each time one occurs, so even if a past reaction was mild, the next one could be more serious," the Mayo Clinic noted.

Conagra Brands has so far not received reports of injuries or illnesses related to the consumption of the recalled salad dressings.

The recall affects the 24-oz Wish-Bone Chunky Blue Cheese Dressing with UPC 0-41321-00691-3, batch/lot code 4254201320 and best by date of Nov. 9, 2022; 24-oz Wish-Bone Thousand Island Dressing with UPC 0-41321-00731-6, batch/lot code 4254201720 and best by date of Feb. 11, 2023; and 15-oz Wish-Bone Thousand Island Dressing with best by dates of Jan. 31, 2023 and Feb. 1, 2023. Customers can find their UPC and batch/lot codes, along with photos of the recalled products, on the FDA website.

"Conagra Brands will work with retail customers to ensure that the recalled products are removed from store shelves," the company said. "This recall does not impact any other Wish-Bone or Conagra Brands products."

The company has advised people who have purchased a recalled product to dispose of it. Those with questions can contact the company's consumer care at 1-800-881-3989 or by email at Consumer.Care@conagra.com.
