Police are searching for an "armed and dangerous" suspect after a 25-year-old woman was found dead in an apartment complex in Lewiston, Maine.

Eddie Massie, 40, was identified as the suspect in the woman's death. Officers reached the Pierce Street apartment building late Sunday night and found the dead body of a woman, identified as Lacresha Howard, in the hallway, Maine Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Shannon Moss told News Center Maine.

Massie has since been on the run, Bangor Daily News reported. The state examiner's office has ruled the death as a homicide after conducting an autopsy.

Members of the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit and Evidence Response Team were at the scene Monday interviewing witnesses and trying to piece together information regarding the killing.

Police have also issued an arrest warrant for Massie on a murder charge. Cops said he is considered "armed and dangerous" and urged the public not to approach him.

Massie is described as a Black male, approximately 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighing around 170 pounds. He walks with a limp. He is also known by the monikers "Fast Eddie" and "TT," according to officials.

Anyone with information about Massie should contact the Lewiston Police Department at 207-513-3001.

Earlier this month, Philadelphia police had sought the public's help in finding an armed and dangerous man after he carried out a string of crimes on a single day. Zahkee Austin, 22, was accused of attempted homicide in Middletown Township and also carrying out an armed robbery 48 miles away in West Goshen Township. Austin was also the suspect in an armed robbery at a store and an attempted robbery at another. The clerk at the second store opened fire at him, forcing him to abandon his vehicle and flee on foot.

Police believed the vehicle he was driving was also stolen. They seized the vehicle.
