A woman in India has been accused of murdering her father with help of her boyfriend for not allowing them to get married.

The victim, identified as Harpal Singh from Sambhal in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, was found hanging from a tree in his field on July 19. Singh's family and his daughter, identified only by her first name Priti, claimed the death was a suicide and refused to give a police complaint, Times Now News reported.

However, an autopsy report revealed the man died of injuries to his head from an iron rod. Based on the autopsy report, the police started an investigation and zeroed in on the suspects. Priti and her boyfriend Dharmendra were arrested for the alleged murder, senior police officer Chakresh Mishra said, local media outlet Latest LY reported.

The suspects confessed the crime during interrogation, the police said. The duo told the police they killed Singh while he went out to work in his field and later hung his body from the tree. Priti reportedly conspired to murder him as he refused to permit her to marry her lover.

The police are searching for one more suspect identified as Dharmendra's accomplice who is on the run, Times Now News reported.
