A young woman in Australia has pled guilty to pretending to be a doctor at a Sydney hospital and treating patients despite not being registered as a medical practitioner.

Zhi Sin Lee, 27, appeared in Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday. She admitted to have been working as a medical intern at the Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital from Jan.18 to Aug. 9 despite not being suitably qualified, 9 News reported.

Lee, of Zetland, was charged with one count of not being a registered health practitioner. According to documents presented at the court, Lee "did knowingly or recklessly claim to be qualified to practise as a health practitioner” despite she was a person “who is not a registered health practitioner," News.com.au reported. She wasn't having a legal representation when she pled guilty to the charges at the court.

"I would like to apologise in case there is anything that may happen to them as a consequence of my actions," Lee told the court, according to News.com.au.

Lee landed the job at Bankstown-Lidcombe Hospital in January January despite failing her medical exams at UNSW (University of New South Wales). She was sacked from her job in August when the staff realized she wasn't registered or qualified for the job.

Outside court, Lee told the media that she was under immense pressure to finish her qualifications. "It’s because I didn’t pass the final exams that’s why I didn’t get the registration," Lee told reporters, according to news.com.au.

"There’s so much pressure to perform, pressure on students," Lee added. "I am sorry for what I have done … I just want to know if I can go back and study medicine. I want to know what my future is like."

Lee is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 20.

In January 2011, a 30-year-old transgender woman was arrested for posing as a doctor and performing illegal cosmetic surgery on more than one patient as part of which she administered lethal butt injects. The woman, identified as Oneal Ron Morris, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for providing healthcare without a license after at least one of her patients passed away. During a year-long investigation, cops determined that Morris charged $700 for butt injections and mostly administered them at her home.
