  • iPhone 11 endured a two-month underwater trip in Disney World
  • The iPhone was returned to the family weeks after it fell into Seven Seas Lagoon
  • The phone was completely functional despite being underwater for such a long time

In what one can call one of the ultimate iPhone 11 durability tests, a Montana-based family received good news from Disney World. The family found out that Disney recovered a fully working iPhone 11 that they accidentally dropped in Seven Seas Lagoon.

According to a Macrumors report, Lisa and Jacob Troyer, along with their daughter Sophie went on a weeklong Disney World trip in October. The fun outing had a small hiccup when Lisa’s brand-new iPhone 11 fell out of her bag into the Seven Seas Lagoon, which is near the Magic Kingdom.

“I was upset to have lost my phone, and the pictures I had taken that evening of Disney's Halloween party, which had been the main event for our trip,” Lisa said.

She added that their six-year-old daughter was “devastated, as pictures of her and Jack Skellington would never materialize.”

It was late at night, Lisa believed that the chances of retrieving the phone were slim. She provided her contact information to a Disney World employee the next day. The employee told her that they have a scuba diving team that takes out lost items from the water body. However, Lisa bought a new phone after she returned to Montana.

Two months passed, Lisa received missed calls, but she ignored them thinking it was from a telemarketing company. But, her father-in-law called her to inform that Disney found her iPhone 11.

Disney mailed the phone to Lisa, and in spite of being underwater, the iPhone survived and was completely operational. “I was able to retrieve all of the pictures from our Disney Halloween night, and besides some sand in my case and little algae on the cover, the phone seems no worse for the wear,” she said.

She even shared her experience with Apple CEO Tim Cook via email and praised iPhone 11’s durability in terms of handling water damage. An iPhone 11 is IP68 certified, which means it can survive up to two meters and 30 minutes underwater.

Interestingly, Apple doesn’t cover any water-related damages under its warranty plan.
