World Teachers' Day is marked annually on Oct. 5 to show appreciation toward those who shape the minds of future generations and help people learn. It is an occasion to celebrate educators across the world.

The day was created by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1994. The theme for this year is "Teachers at the heart of education recovery."

"On World Teachers' Day, we are not only celebrating every teacher. We are calling on countries to invest in them and prioritize them in global education recovery efforts so that every learner has access to a qualified and supported teacher. Let's stand with our teachers!" a message on the UNESCO website states.
