  • Cody Rhodes has still reportedly not made up his mind on whether to return to WWE
  • Talks between Rhodes and WWE were said to have stalled following AEW's purchase of ROH
  • Seth Rollins was allegedly the proposed opponent for Rhodes at WrestleMania 38

The possibility of seeing Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 38 next month remains murky yet possible after an insider disclosed backstage info.

Steve Carrier of Ringside News reported on the chances of whether Rhodes decides to come back to the WWE or he moves elsewhere.

“The creative team was told that, ‘Cody [Rhodes] will do what Cody chooses is best for his family. We hope he's happy in whatever he does, wherever he lands.’”

At first glance, it sounds like Rhodes is truly considering what he does next as he has never been a free agent since 2016--the year that he left the WWE.

For the next two years, Rhodes bounced around the independent wrestling scene, TNA/Impact Wrestling, New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), and Ring of Honor (ROH).

2019 would serve as the year when Rhodes shot up to the top of North American pro wrestling fans’ list as the establishment of All Elite Wrestling (AEW) allowed him to shine on his own while building a worthy rival to WWE.

The hottest free agent in pro wrestling today became so after he allowed his AEW contract to expire on Valentine’s Day.

Since then, the rumors of him returning to WWE started popping up everywhere and it seemed that his return was inevitable.

However, those were then shot down after ROH was acquired by AEW and the rumors then turned to him being the head producer of the brand.

"The American Nightmare" turning down the alleged offer from AEW would indicate that the whispers of a power struggle within the company has some truth to it.

Should the WWE be able to acquire Rhodes for WrestleMania, it is almost a foregone conclusion that he gets into a high-profile feud with one of the WWE’s top superstars.

Chasing after a championship is already out of the question as the title-versus-title match between WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns and WWE Champion Brock Lesnar is already set in stone.

A WrestleMania matchup with Rollins was already being floated around the internet recently, and it might not be that farfetched to think that Rhodes has already been made aware formally.

Whatever the case may be, Rhodes’ situation is one that pro wrestling fans will be closely monitoring as WWE’s biggest show of the year is only three weeks away.
