  • Talks between Cody Rhodes and WWE have reportedly died down after AEW purchased Ring of Honor (ROH)
  • AEW chief Tony Khan may likely offer Rhodes the head producer role of ROH
  • Rhodes and his wife left AEW in mid-February with speculation emerging that he would be appearing at WrestleMania 38

All Elite Wrestling (AEW) founder and CEO Tony Khan scored a massive win over WWE, and Cody Rhodes just might shun the latter and re-sign with the former according to the latest gossip.

In an exclusive report by Cassidy Haynes of Body Slam, discussions of Rhodes potentially returning to WWE have fizzled out and it is now thought that he will play another role in AEW, with him focusing on Ring of Honor (ROH).

“While asking around about the purchase of Ring of Honor, sources have also confirmed to me that the reports of Brandi and Cody Rhodes leaving AEW was ‘very much real life, and was not a work.’ There is hope that Cody [Rhodes] can be brought back into the AEW fold. The idea was floated to me that there might be a possibility again, with a new role involving the ROH acquisition,” Haynes wrote.

Khan announced their acquisition of ROH on the latest episode of AEW Dynamite this past Wednesday, March 2.

Rumors have since emerged that AEW’s version of ROH will be like a "development center," possibly similar to how WWE has NXT.

If this were to be the case, the likeliest path for Rhodes to take with ROH is being its head producer while making sporadic in-ring appearances in both ROH and AEW itself to drive interest across both brands.

When it was announced that Rhodes would be leaving AEW back in mid-February, it was originally thought that it was an angle that the company was trying to sell in order to generate interest in a potential Rhodes storyline.

However, sources later reported that both Cody and his wife Brandi Rhodes had allowed their contracts to expire.

As was to be expected, rumors of “The American Nightmare” making his way to WWE and a match at WrestleMania were believed to be in the cards, but the latest development with AEW may entice him enough to stay away from the company that he had left back in 2016.

Rhodes went to ROH following his WWE stint and even won the ROH World Championship off Christopher Daniels in the main event of Best in the World on June 23, 2017.

With Rohdes' wealth of experience in the business behind the scenes, him being tapped as the head of ROH is an approach that is to be expected of a clever businessman like Khan.
