KEY POINTS

  • Bill Goldberg changes course as he targets Drew McIntyre
  • Daniel Bryan could win the 2021 Royal Rumble
  • "The Battle of Spears" may still happen later on

Originally, Bill Goldberg was considered the top choice for Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 37 for the WWE Universal title. But it appears that there has been a change of plans following the Jan. 4 edition of WWE Raw.

Goldberg was one of several WWE legends who appeared on the show. The intention appears to hype up the Drew McIntyre vs. Keith Lee.

"The Scottish Psychopath" won over Lee who gave a good account of himself. But the mood quickly shifted when the former WCW champion emerged.

Pointing out how McIntyre did not give WWE legends enough respect, the 54-year-old star challenged the reigning WWE champion to a title match at the 2021 Royal Rumble on Jan. 31.

The 35-year-old champion peeved Goldberg when he said that it would be like fighting his dad. He ended up getting pushed to the mat, but he got up to get into Goldberg’s face before the show went off the air.

With this development, the previous revelation of Goldberg has now been neutralized. However, that could only be temporary since the many-time wrestling champion did not mention when he would face Reigns.

For those who missed it, Goldberg threw everyone in a frenzy when he revealed he was going after Reigns since their WrestleMania 36 showdown never took place.

Aside from that, he accused "The Tribal Chief" of stealing his signature move, The Spear.

There is still a chance that a clash between Goldberg and Reigns may materialize although the chances are low.

If the Oklahoma native does go on to challenge McIntyre and lose the title tilt, he could still participate in the 30-man battle royale. But at age 54, seeing him work more than one match is a bit farfetched.

Hence, this may shed more light on who could win the Royal Rumble and face Reigns at WrestleMania 37. Daniel Bryan was the last wrestler to issue a fair warning, saying at some point he would go after the Samoan sensation.

If this is the path that WWE scriptwriters are headed, the man behind the famous “Yes Movement" could be the 2021 Royal Rumble winner and challenge "The Big Dog" at WrestleMania 37.

That is unless another twist happens in the coming months leading to the biggest WWE spectacle.

Assuming Goldberg wins the title from McIntyre, it could set the stage for a WrestleMania 37 clash of their own. If so, the Scottish wrestler could regain the belt and make it two in a row where he would end up as the winner on "The Grandest Stage of Them All."
