  • Dave Meltzer reports that NXT will be heavily featured in the WWE Draft on Friday
  • NXT has a ton of talent, and it only makes sense to let the established names join the main roster
  • Draft plans are not yet set in stone, according to Meltzer

The WWE Draft is set to happen this Friday, October 1 on SmackDown, and there are rumors that some of NXT’s biggest names will be receiving the call-up to the main roster.

Famed pro wrestling insider Dave Meltzer first broke the news on an episode of Wrestling Observer Radio.

“Right now, NXT–there’s supposed to be people drafted from NXT and to freshen up both brands. I don’t want to say a lot but many people from NXT. The NXT guys are supposed to be a significant part of it," said Meltzer.

However, Meltzer’s source also said that a lot of things could change between the draft and now.

“This person who said that said this could also change completely tomorrow but they’re under the impression that there will be a lot of people from NXT,” said Meltzer.

Meltzer also confirmed in the past that WE has informed the networks about which superstars are going, so as not to blindside them when the draft happens on Friday.

“From what I was told today, that USA and FOX do know a few things like the key guys. The key guys are decided, nothing else is decided. Everything can change,” he said.

The promotion enjoys making a spectacle of the WWE draft as it allows the company to mix up both Raw and Smackdown’s rosters, providing fans with new and exciting matchups while introducing the biggest stars from NXT.

Previous notable call-ups from NXT include Paige, Kevin Owens, Asuka, Baron Corbin and The Shield.

NXT recently underwent a rebrand after Vince McMahon and Kevin Dunn took control of the brand away from Paul Levesque (better known as Triple H).

Though there are no hints yet as to which NXT superstars will be receiving the call-ups, many believe that the WWE is opting to feature its newer stars, allowing the veterans to appear on main roster TV.

With a wealth of new names joining the NXT roster like Bron Breakker (son of WWE icon Rick Steiner), it only makes sense that the brand’s more established stars make the move to the main roster to give way to new talent.
