The Royal Rumble is a spectacle to behold with an abundance of surprises for the fans. The annual over-the-top-rope match feature unexpected appearances from superstars the WWE universe haven’t seen in a while. This will usually result in a resounding pop from the crowd that gives the Royal Rumble its unique identity as a pay per view.

This year is no different with the reappearance of Santina – the drag version of crowd-favorite Santino Marella. Although this served as an additional entertainment factor, especially those who remember the character, some WWE divas were not happy with his inclusion.

By way of Ringside News, it was reported in an episode of the Oh, You Didn’t Know Wrestling Show that some were not pleased with Santina Marella’s inclusion. “I was told that a lot of the female Superstars were mad about Santina. That’s right. They were not happy about it.”

An addition of a male superstar in the women’s Royal Rumble could mean that it was one spot taken away from the younger talent. It could have been an opportunity for a developing superstar to get the experience of a major pay per view.

The Santina Marella character came to life when he entered as drag to compete in Ms. Wrestlemania in Wrestlemania 25. He won the competition eliminating Beth Phoenix and Melina to be crowned with a sash and tiara after the match.

Santino Marella is known to be a goofy character of WWE. He made his debut in 2007 where the WWE held an episode of Raw in Italy. Vince McMahon called Santino Marella out from the stands to fight Umaga for the Intercontinental Championship. With an interruption from Bobby Lashley, the Santino Marella was able to score the upset.

As a crowd favorite, Santino Marella’s character is used as the comic relief of the show. His finisher is the Cobra where he wears a green sleeve, positions his hands like a cobra and strikes his opponent to the face.
