“X-Men: Apocalypse” star James McAvoy finally broke his silence on his divorce from ex-wife Anne-Marie Duff.

According to People, the actor and Duff filed for divorce in May 2016, almost 10 years after they tied the knot. They have been blessed with one child together, Brendan, who was born in 2010.

While speaking with The Porter, the British actor admitted that so much has changed in his life since he got divorced, but a lot of things also stayed the same. This includes his decision to keep his personal life private and away from the media.

“Me and Anne-Marie, when we were together, it was our policy not to speak about each other in public. We rarely broke that and if we did, it was for tiny things – ‘Yes, we are cooking turkey this Christmas’ – and that policy still stands. Even separated, we’re still respectful of each other and committed to doing that publicly and personally,” he told the publication.

McAvoy and Duff’s divorce was first made public on May 22, 2016. At the time, the Sunday Mirror reported that even though the two decided to end their marriage, they would still be living together and co-parenting their son. A source the publication (via the Daily Mail), “They’ve decided to stay where they are for the time being and are trying to minimize disruption at home. James will be there for the foreseeable future. It’s completely amicable and they’re still getting on well. So despite the news breaking, they’ve decided to keep themselves at home in London with their son.”

In other news, McAvoy is not yet sure whether or not he will return to the upcoming “X-Men” movie. The actor revealed that an original version of the film is currently in the works, but he still hasn’t received a call to reprise his role as Professor Charles Xavier.
