One Direction member Zayn Malik received both praise and death threats when he weighed in on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict with a pro-Palestinian tweet Sunday night:

The British boy band member, who is Muslim and whose father is of Pakistani descent, got mixed reactions to the tweet, but it appears most fans on Twitter who responded were supportive of the #FreePalestine tweet.

But at least one user told Malik to “kill yourself”:

Other Directioners said Malik’s tweet wasn’t as offensive as some perceived, and showed their support for the singer.
