KEY POINTS

  • Real Madrid ended their La Liga championship season with a 2-2 draw against Leganes
  • Zinedine Zidane and the rest of the team have been dominant ever since the resumption of the games
  • Midfielder Isco stepped up with a phenomenal performance

The past few weeks have highlighted Real Madrid dominating La Liga, with the Merengues emerging as this year’s La Liga champions. While Karim Benzema took control of most of the season, midfielder Isco stepped up for Zinedine Zidane in the final game of the season.

The last match of Real Madrid ended with a 2-2 draw against city neighbors Leganes. Despite unable to take the win, this doesn’t remove the fact that Real Madrid remains the most dominant team in the league. This was emphasized with the games’ resumption after the coronavirus suspension as Los Blancos did not look back and steamrolled through the competition.

Throughout the final match, Zidane made some crucial changes to the lineup such as letting Thibaut Courtois get some rest off the field. Other key players such as Dani Carvajal and Raphael Varane also got the time off. Despite the big adjustments, several players still stepped up for the squad as Isco, in particular, was in phenomenal form with how he sparked the offense for Real Madrid.

The two goals of the evening of the La Liga champions are attributed to Sergio Ramos and Marco Asensio. The two were able to score and breakdown the Leganes defense due to how well Isco facilitated the offense. The elite dribbling and vision Isco has on the field easily translated into two big assists for Real Madrid.

Per The Real Champs, Isco played the best football of the season in this Leganes draw with how excellent he was controlling the ball. It comes as no surprise that Isco is able to put up strong numbers like that given how he’s done it for most of his career. In a total of 307 appearances for Real Madrid, he’s scored 51 goals and tallied 54 assists.

Given that Real Madrid is still the best club in all of Spain this season, this makes Zidane one of the more successful coaches in the organization. It will be interesting to see how Real Madrid will play in the coming years with stars such as Isco still playing on top of his game.
