Just a few hours after he revealed key details on Corona in a blog post, renowned iOS hacker and jailbreak developer Pod2g has made another significant announcement. He took to his Twitter account and said that he had made significant progress on an untethered jailbreak for A5 devices, iPhone 4S and iPad 2, in particular, and that a release could be expected within a week.

I made a step today for the A5. With some luck we could expect a release in a week, Pod2g tweeted.

Pod2G seems promising this time and even advises users to upgrade to the latest iOS. He followed with another tweet: Yes, upgrade your 4S and iPad 2 to 5.0.1.

To get prepared for the forthcoming untethered jailbreak, iPhone 4S and iPad 2 owners need to download the iOS 5.0.1 IPSW. The IPSW (iPhone Software Install) works alongside the jailbreak software and uploads a modified version of the OS onto the device.

Although an untethered jailbreak for all A4 devices like the iPhone 4, the iPhone 3GS, the iPad, the iPod Touch 4G and the iPod Touch 3G running iOS 5 or iOS 5.0.1 has already been in the wild, the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2, powered by the A5 processor, are still to be jailbroken. Therefore, Pod2g's claimed step, if successful, would receive a warm welcome from the users of Apple's new devices.

In his earlier updates, Pod2g said that he gave all the details to the Chronic dev team so that they could finish, test, integrate and release the A4 jailbreak as soon as possible. This way, he can focus on working with jailbreaking the A5 devices. Pod2g said:

I need to focus on A5 and hope I can find a path quick, and I have the feeling that Chronic-dev could help me.
So, here is what I did:
- I gave all the details to the chronic dev team so that they can finish, test, integrate and release the A4 jb ASAP.
- I'll put all my energy from now on on the A5
Hope I don't disappoint.
See you.

In a blog post on Monday, Pod2g explained about Corona and the untethered jailbreak for the A4 devices. However, he didn't mention anything about an untethered jailbreak for A5 devices, disappointing users of devices running on the A5 processor.

Disappointed users showered harsh comments on the post.

Lol... He just made a blog update and a long one that is with no mention of the A5.....Anyone believing he is still working on the A5 is a f***ing mo***n, said a comment.

Pod2g replied back on his Twitter page saying that he'll remove the comments on his blog post as many of them are useless. I'm gonna disable / remove comments on the blog. A lot are useless. Sorry for the good ones though, he tweeted.

Following his recent update on his progress on the untethered jailbreak for A5 devices, users are admiring his effort.

@pod2g eh bro keep up the good work!!!waiting on the ip4s jailbreak thanx, one of his followers tweeted.

@pod2g <3 Thanks much for the advice. Already did the upgrade this weekend, but glad I didn't jump the gun. :), another user tweeted.

iOS 5.1 Jailbreak

According to some reports, the untethered jailbreak for A5 devices should also eventually support the upcoming iOS 5.1 release. An exploit for the untethered iOS 5.1 jailbreak has been confirmed by Stefan Esser aka @ion1c. The news is also backed up with separate tweets from @Veence and @pod2g.

According to Pod2g, after Apple had made further developments to iOS security, data pages now need to be signed by Apple for the loader to authenticate the binary. However, @i0n1c seems to be able to pass through the verification process and hopefully his method could be used in a future iOS 5.1 jailbreak, Pod2g said.
