Republican Rep. Bob Morris of Indiana is refusing to support a resolution celebrating Girl Scouts 100th anniversary, accusing the organization "sexualizing young girls" and teaching scouts to be pro-abortion through a partnership with Planned Parenthood.

According to a letter to the Indiana House, the Fort Wayne Republican said he was disturbed by what he found online about the Girl Scouts of America and its worldwide partner, from its acceptance of transgender scouts, education seminars about sex and what he calls its "liberal agenda."

"Many parents are abandoning the Girl Scouts because they promote homosexual lifestyles. In fact, the Girl Scouts education seminar girls are directed to the example of role models," writes Rep. Morris. "Of the fifty role models listed, only three have a briefly-mentioned religious background-all the rest are feminists, lesbians, or Communists."

The national Girl Scouts association, Girl Scouts of the USA, is no stranger to controversy. It has faced criticism for both its association with the women's health non-profit and accepting a transgender scout.

In January, a 14-year-old scout named Taylor made a YouTube video calling for a boycott of Girl Scout cookies because the organization admitted a 7-year-old transgender boy into a Denver, Colorado troop last year. The Colorado Chapter said local troops evaluate the admission of boys on a case-by-case basis.

Also last month, a Virginia church banned Girl Scout troops from meeting in their space because its parent organization works with Planned Parenthood, which offers birth control and abortion services.

Girl Scouts of the USA, the parent organization to American Girl Scout troops and a member of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) denies an official affiliation with Planned Parenthood, but they have used their education materialin the past.

A 2010 panel sponsored by the national organization at the United Nation Commission, as well as another 2008 panel in Waco, Texas, distributed a Planned Parenthood pamphlet called "Healthy, Happy and Hot" that advocates safe sex.

Morris said he disapproved of how the sex education pamphlet instructs young girls that "There is no right or wrong way to have sex."

"Liberal progressive troop-leaders will indoctrinate the girls in their troop according to the principles of Planned Parenthood," Morris wrote.

The Journal-Gazette of Fort Wayne reported that Morris is the only House member to refuse to sign the resolution honoring the Girl Scout's 100th anniversary that lawmakers approved last week, but he told the paper others would join him. He later recanted that statement in an interview with The Associated Press.

The letter was sent to the Indiana House on Saturday. A statement published on the Girl Scouts of Northern Indian-Michiana Monday said that it leaves sex and reproduction question to parents.

"It really hasn't affected us," said spokeswoman Amanda Sharp. "Our membership is still strong and our cookie sales are up from last year."
