The developers of “Assassin’s Creed” and “Final Fantasy XV” are collaborating. Find out more details below.

Ubisoft Montreal and Square Enix will be collaborating to bring special content for players of “Assassin’s Creed” and “Final Fantasy XV.” Their partnership was announced at Gamescom this week, and a couple of details about the DLC they will be releasing together have been disclosed as well.

Free DLC Lineup

The union between the developing teams behind “Assassin’s Creed” and “Final Fantasy XV” is going to bear fruits that many fans of both action games have been craving for. The developers have prepared a free DLC and special items that are bound to arrive at the end of this month, UbiBlog Communications Senior Manager Giancarlo Varanini indicated in a blog post.

Come Aug. 30, “Final Fantasy XV” players will receive the first installment of free content as part of the collaboration. However, this will only be available to those who have successfully obtained the Dream Egg from the Moogle Chocobo Carnival event. Players who have the Dream Egg will receive a special gift next week, and it’s none other than a Master Assassin outfit for Noctis.

The developers have also prepared another special content that’s scheduled to arrive on Aug. 31. This is the free Assassin’s Festival DLC for Square Enix’s open world action RPG. The DLC is going to alter the town of Lestallum in “Final Fantasy XV” as new activities become accessible to players. The Assassin’s Festival will also come with themed items and new features. Furthermore, Noctis will be given the chance to use well-known abilities of the Assassins.

This is not the first time that “Final Fantasy” and “Assassin’s Creed” are having a crossover. Back in 2012, Square Enix’s game was granted access to an “Assassin’s Creed” costume via the Final Fantasy 13-2 paid DLC. Unlike the previous collaboration however, the Assassin’s Festival DLC looks more substantial, as pointed out by Eurogamer.

How The Collaboration Came To Be

The team-up between the “Assassin’s Creed” and “Final Fantasy XV” devs reportedly started three years ago after a chance meeting at the Tokyo Game Show. It appears the admiration for each other’s work was the thing that united the teams and made them decide to push through with a collaboration.

After working on their free DLC for some time, the teams have finally announced the fruits of their labor at this year’s Gamescom. At the event, they unveiled a promotional artwork that shows “Assassin’s Creed Origins” character Bayek and “Final Fantasy XV’s” Noctis standing side by side. Ubisoft Montreal game director Ashraf Ismail and “Final Fantasy XV” director Hajime Tabata even offered to sign the artwork for fans who were in attendance at the event.

“This collaboration is the result of being huge fans,” Ismail said. “There’s a lot of respect between the two teams and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the opportunity to pay homage to each other’s work.”

Following the big reveal, Square Enix teased that players who will be partaking in the limited time event DLC are getting rewards. The company mentioned “exclusive items” but did not reveal what type of items they would be. It’s really up to the players to find out.
