Nick Viall and Kaitlyn Bristowe’s hookup on “The Bachelorette” was one of the most controversial and talked about moments this season. One question on the minds of fans is how did things escalate that quickly? Nick revealed the answer following the finale on “After the Final Rose.”

When grilled by host Chris Harrison, Nick chalked up his intimate night with Kaitlyn in Ireland to “anticipation” and a “build up.”

“We spent so much time getting to know each other,” he explained, citing all their conversations prior to the show.

Nick confirmed that the two started talking “about a month” prior to night one of “The Bachelorette.” Nick explained that they had “a lot of great conversations” … without actually getting to meet in person.

Those “great conversations” started with texts, but then evolved to phone calls and video chats. They had developed an “unexpected and innocent” friendship – all before Kaitlyn knew that “The Bachelorette” was a possibility.

According to Nick, Kaitlyn thought that the star of “The Bachelorette” was going to be another “Bachelor” alum. But ultimately she was chosen and started her journey to meet her future husband on the ABC dating show.

Fans know that Nick ended up joining in episode 4; a decision he knew was going to be unpopular amongst the other men. However, he maintains that he was there to pursue a relationship with her.

Unfortunately those conversations weren’t enough for Nick to get a happy ending with Kaitlyn. Although Nick made it to the final two, Kaitlyn’s heart was with Shawn. She broke up with Nick during the final rose ceremony, stopping him just as he was about to propose to her.
