Beyoncé’s decision to chop off her signature long locks in place of a short, blonde pixie cut shocked the web Wednesday night after the entertainer revealed her makeover on Instagram.

Her change of appearance not only resulted in multiple celebrity and fan reactions, but even became a trending topic on Twitter (#ShorterThanBeyoncesHair). The 31-year-old singer and actress revealed her new haircut in a series of three images to her 5.6 million followers, later posting a hand-written note joking about an incident when her hair was accidentally caught in a fan last month during a concert in Montreal. “Gravity can’t begin to pull me out of the fan again. I felt my hair was yankin’ from the fan that always hatin' [sic],” wrote the singer.

While Beyoncé’s new look resulted in shock, she isn’t the only famous face to opt for shorter locks. Here are four other celebrities who also controversially decided to rock a pixie cut:

Actress Emma Watson sported a pixie cut long before Beyoncé after chopping off her brunette locks in 2011 following the end of her decade-long run filming the “Harry Potter" series. Despite since allowing her hair to grow back to shoulder length, the 23-year-old British native announced on Twitter Thursday that she loved the “Single Ladies”new look so much, that she almost reverted back to her former, shorter hairstyle.

“Nearly got out my scissors this morning after seeing @Beyoncé’s pixie cut,” wrote the actress. “I only just managed to restrain myself. Close call though...”

When former “Hannah Montana” actress, Miley Cyrus, was photographed sporting a short, platinum blonde pixie cut in place of her long locks, fans of the Disney star were shocked. The 20-year-old singer, who first debut her new look on Twitter in Aug. 2012, gained criticism for the makeover but told followers that she was pleased with her decision.

“Never felt more me in my whole life,” said Cryus, who later revealed that her fiancé, “The Hunger Games” actor Liam Hemsworth, was also fond of her new look. “Last night he said I look the happiest he's seen me in a while… He likes seeing my eyes more,” she said.

Rihanna, 25, is no stranger to frequently changing her look, yet, the singer’s ever-changing hairstyles still continue to make headlines. The Barbados native, who came onto the music scene with long, brunette locks in 2005 with the single “Pon de Replay,” has since been spotted with every color of hair ranging blonde to black, to grey, and even at one point, even fire engine red, most all paired with pixie cut-esque styles.

“Monster” star Charlize Theron debuted her pixie cut in a big way— on the red carpet at the 2013 Academy Awards. The 37-year-old actress, who shaved her head for her role in the upcoming action film “Mad Max: Fury Road,” had to wait until her hair grew out in order to rock the specific style. The Oscar award-winner was not the only one to reveal her love for the new look, fans also took to social media to praise the South African-native for her new style, some even calling her "beautiful" and comparing her to a "goddess."

“It's the most freeing thing," Theron revealed on the red carpet. "I highly recommend it."
