A cartoon of Disney icons Mickey and Minnie Mouse clad in Islamic dress has angered Egyptian Muslims.

The Egyptian politician and magnate who posted the cartoon on his Twitter account is the object of a pending legal battle in the North African nation-in-transition.

Naguib Sawiris is a telecommunications mogul -- CEO of Orascom Telecom -- who started the Liberal Free Egyptians party after Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's ouster early this year.

Sawiris is an Egyptian Christian. Tensions between Egyptian Muslims and the nation's Christian minority have escalated since the toppling of the Mubarak administration.

The cartoon depicted a bearded Mickey Mouse in a traditional Arab Muslim robe. Minnie Mouse wears a full veil, showing only her eyes.

Sawiris has since apologized for the cartoon on his Twitter account, but there are several lawyers who have filed complaints to the public prosecutor accusing him of offending Islam, according to an article from the Agence France-Presse.
