The fall TV season is in full swing and Thursday welcomes fans to another night of big premieres. Many will be excited to see the return of Shonda Rhimes' ABC trifecta, but that is not the only reason to "thank God it's Thursday." There are five can't-miss shows set to debut, including one brand new series and the return of an old favorite.

Thursdays on television belong to Shonda Rhimes, whose three shows -- "Grey's Anatomy," "Scandal," and "How to Get Away With Murder" -- all return on Sept. 24. ABC's "TGIT" night lineup begins with the remarkable 12th season of the long-running "Grey's Anatomy" at 8 p.m. EDT. Fans will want to tune in to see if Jackson (Jesse Williams) and April (Sarah Drew) survive their Season 11 finale fight, in which Jackson gave a greiving April a difficult ultimatum -- him or the army.

"Grey's" will be followed by the Season 5 premiere of "Scandal" at 9 p.m. EDT. In the episode Olivia (Kerry Washington) helps the visiting Queen of Caldonia and her family when they experience an unexpected tragedy.

However, the pièce de résistance of the ABC trio might be "How to Get Away With Murder," which returns for its second season at 10 p.m. EDT. The premiere comes fresh off of star Viola Davis' historic Emmy win for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

ABC does not get to have all of the fun, though! Remember "Heroes"? NBC does and it is bringing the cult series back for a mini-series reboot, "Heroes Reborn." The two-hour premiere begins at 8 p.m. EDT.

Then, NBC will follow that up with the premiere of a brand new show, "The Player," at 10 p.m. EDT. "The Player" stars Phillip Winchester as Alex Kane, a former intelligence officer recruited by a group of wealthy gamblers, led by Mr. Johnson (Wesley Snipes), who like to bet on crime and need a "player" to do their bidding.
