Users of the Sprint variant of the Samsung Galaxy S3 (SPH-L710) can now upgrade their devices to the new Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, thanks to the new Slim Bean Build 3 custom firmware, based on the latest Android version.

Apart from bringing the updated Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean to the Sprint Galaxy S3, the Slim Bean Build 3 custom ROM also comes with several customization options that cannot be found in the stock ROM. However, as an Android Jinn report pointed out, Slim Bean Build 3 is still under development phase and may hold some bugs. But the best thing is that all of these issues will be resolved as development progresses.

The Slim Bean custom ROM is known for low file size and fast speedy nature. On the other hand, the Sprint Galaxy S3 also sports “satisfactory hardware configuration and have enough power to run this latest build smoothly,” the report added.

Below is a tutorial showing how to install Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on Sprint Samsung Galaxy S3 (SPH-L710) using Slim Bean Build 3 custom ROM. Before going ahead, take a look at certain aspects that you need to be aware of:

- Backup your data

- The device must have at least 80 percent battery power

- USB driver must be installed for Samsung Galaxy S3 (SPH-L710) in your PC

- USB Debugging must be enabled

- Backup your EFS Folder

- The device must be rooted and have ClockWorkMod Recovery Installed (The process should work with other similar custom recovery tools)

- Don’t skip Nandroid backup as it’s very helpful if this custom ROM doesn’t work the way you wanted

- This tutorial is only for Sprint variant of the Samsung Galaxy S3; therefore it should not be implemented on any other Android device

Procedure

Step 1: Download the Slim Bean Build 3 custom ROM based on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean for your Sprint Galaxy S3 (SPH-L710). [Download Link]

Step 2: Download Google Apps. [Download Link]

Step 3: Connect your Sprint Galaxy S3 to your computer using USB cable.

Step 4: Copy downloaded files to the SD card of your phone without extracting them.

Step 5: Disconnect the USB cable and switch off the phone.

Step 6: Boot into ClockWorkMod recovery in your Galaxy S3 by pressing and holding the Volume Up, Power and Home buttons together until the Samsung logo appears on screen.

Step 7: Leave the buttons and hold them again. You will get ClockWorkMod recovery screen soon. Now browse between options in recovery using Volume keys while using Power key to select an option.

Step 8: Carry out a Nandroid backup of your existing ROM by selecting Backup and Restore, then on the next screen, select Backup again. Once back up is complete, go back to the main recovery menu.

Step 9: Now perform the data wiping task. To do so, select wipe data/ factory reset, then select Yes on next screen to confirm your action.

Step 10: Select install zip from SD card and then select choose zip from SD card. After that, locate the “Slim Bean Build 3 ROM ZIP” file and select it by pressing Power button.

Confirm installation by selecting Yes – Install _____.zip on the next screen. The ROM installation will now begin.

Step 11: After the ROM installation is done, repeat the previous step but choose the Slim Bean Gapps zip file instead of ROM zip to install the Google apps package.

Step 12: Once the installation is complete, go back to the main recovery menu and select reboot system now to reboot the phone and boot into customized Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean ROM Slim Bean Build 3. The first boot will take time.
