The Los Angeles Clippers are becoming the new en vogue team on the West Coast, according to many reports. And if Monday's night's game against crosstown rival the Los Angeles Lakers is a hint, well, the Clippers might be a slam dunk this year.

It came early in the preseason game -- just three-and-a-half-minutes after tipoff -- as DeAndre Jordan got the ball at the free throw line and proceeded to jam the ball through the ball in a play-of-the-day as Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum helplessly watched.

It was that kind of night for the Clippers, as the team prepares to open what many are expecting to be a promising season. The Clippers were led by Chris Paul's 17 points, nine assists and seven rebounds and fellow newcomer Chauncey Billups had 23 points as they beat the Lakers 114-95.

Paul, of course, was recently acquired by the Clippers from New Orleans after the NBA killed a three-way deal that would have sent him to the Lakers. The teams are scheduled to play another preseason game before ther regular season begins.

The game also marked the first contest for Lakers' star Kobe Bryant, who's dealt with extensive media coverage after his wife, Vanessa Bryant, filed for divorce. Kobe Bryant had 22 points in 30 minutes of play in the game.
