“Pokémon GO’s” Water Festival is making it easier for Trainers to catch elusive Water-type Pokémon. Pokémon GO Live

Don’t be surprised when you see more Water-type Pokémon spawning in your location starting today, The Pokémon Company just launched the global Water Festival in “Pokémon GO.” This in-game event is making it possible for Trainers to catch Water Pokémon like Squirtle, Totodile, Magikarp and even Lapras for a limited amount of time.

The Pokémon GO team just announced via the game’s official blog that the global Water Festival went live this Wednesday at 1.pm. PDT and will run until next Wednesday, March 29. The team encouraged players to step outside and spend more time with Niantic Labs’ gaming app if they are serious in collecting Water-type Pokémon.

As part of the Water Festival, the spawn rates for Starter Pokémon Squirtle and Totodile have been increased. Magikarp is getting the same treatment, as well as the Evolutions of all three Pokémon. The Pokémon Go team even teased that players could casually encounter Lapras throughout the duration of this in-game festival.

To make the most out of the global Water Festival, the team advised Trainers to visit locations or nearby areas where Water-type Pokémon are known to commonly appear. This guarantees that one will have better chances at encountering Water Pokémon from both the Kanto and Johto Regions.

The Pokémon GO team is also feeling a bit festive these days, so it is adding a Magikarp Hat as part of the avatar wardrobe items. For players who want to go all out during this limited-time celebration, the new item is now available.

Canada-based players may be particularly pleased with the in-game event because it coincides with National Water Week. Globally, World Water Day is being celebrated on March 22. Perhaps this is the reason why Niantic’s team launched the Water Festival today.
