Gonzalo Higuain had a hat trick, and Cristiano Ronaldo had two assists, as Real Madrid rolled over Real Betis on Saturday, 4-1, at Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Betis goalkeeper Casto was bombarded by shots, particularly in the second half, as the Real Madrid took 22 in the game, with 10 on goal.

The day belonged to Higuain who scored three second half goals, which started in the 46th minute.

Brazilian midfielder Kaka also added a goal in the 59th minute to give Los Galacticos a two-goal cushion.

Real Betis midfielder Jorge Molina cut the deficit in half in the 69th minute, but Higuain responded with a goal moments later, and then the Argentine striker got his third goal of the match in the 73rd minute to give Jose Mourinho's squad the home victory.

Higuain has been in a roll lately. His effort against Real Betis marked the third hat-trick in his last four matches. Perhaps Higuain was making up for the poor effort Argentina gave in their 1-0 loss to Venezuela on Tuesday.

Real Betis managed 10 shots, with three on goal. However, Real Madrid was clearly the aggressor, as the La Liga giants had possession for 59 perent of the match and were caught offsides nine times, while the flag never went up against Real Betis.

The loss puts Real Betis in seventh place, as the club faces rather weak competition in the next two weeks.

Real Madrid are currently in third place in the La Liga standings, but trail Barcelona and Levante by one point. Mourinho's squad face Lyon on Tuesday in Champions League play.
