"The Sound of Music” is one of the most beloved films of all time, and 50 years after its release on March 2, 1965, it's not just its classic songs that still bring joy, but its quotable dialogue as well. And its star, Julie Andrews, remains an icon, as was evidenced by her rousing reception at the 2015 Oscars in Los Angeles. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the story of the von Trapp family and their young singing governess Maria, here are 12 of our favorite things uttered in the film:

1. "You brought music back into the house. I had forgotten." – Captain von Trapp (Christopher Plummer), to Maria

2. "Only grown-up men are scared of women." – Kurt (Duane Chase), the precocious 11-year-old von Trapp child

3. "You know how Sister Berthe always makes me kiss the floor after we've had a disagreement? Well, lately I've taken to kissing the floor whenever I see her coming, just to save time." – Maria, before she goes to the home of Captain von Trapp to tend to his seven children

4. “When the Lord closes a door, somewhere He opens a window.” -- Maria

5. “Yes. Well, you can't marry someone when you're in love with someone else -- can you? –Captain von Trapp to Maria after he call off his engagement to the Baroness

6. “Children can't do all the things they're supposed to if they have to worry about spoiling their precious clothes.” -- Maria

7. “I'm Brigitta, she's Louisa. She's 13 years old, and you're smart! I'm 10, and I think your dress is the ugliest one I ever saw!” -- Brigitta von Trapp after she meets Maria

8. “Somewhere out there is a lady who I think will never be a nun. Auf Wiedersehen, darling.” – the Baroness, about Maria

9. “Maria, these walls were not meant to shut out problems. You have to face them. You have to live the life you were born to live.” -- Mother Abbess to Maria about not returning to the abbey

10. Maria: “I can't seem to stop singing wherever I am. And what's worse, I can't seem to stop saying things -- anything and everything I think and feel.”

Mother Abbess: “Some people would call that honesty.”

11. “You are the 12th in a long line of governesses who have come here to look after my children since their mother died. I trust you will be an improvement on the last one. She stayed only two hours.” Captain von Trapp to Maria

12. “There's nothing more irresistible to a man than a woman who's in love with him.” – the Baroness
