The hotel maid, who accused former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn of attempted rape, was working as a prostitute, claim reports.

The 32-year-old woman, at the Sofitel Hotel was collecting cash from male guests, The New York Post report said.

There is information... of her getting extraordinary tips, if you know what I mean, a source close to the defence investigation told The Post.

The woman also had a lot of her expenses -- hair braiding, salon expenses -- paid for by men not related to her, the source said.

This report has come forward, when Strauss Kahn was set free from house arrest, as the prosecutors gave him a benefit of doubt regarding the credibility of the maid who was recoded talking to a drug dealer on the very next day of her accusation on a 62-year-old Kahn. Other discoveries about the maid include her possible links to criminal activities, drug dealing and money laundering.

Kahn was taken into custody in May. After the arrest, Kahn had claimed that their sexual encounter was consensual.

We have people who have been victimized, who have claimed she ripped them off. Nice working people from her neighborhood, a source said, according to the report.

With a release from the house arrest, Kahn was also set free of the restrictive bail conditions like wearing an ankle monitor, limited outings and being confined to a Lower Manhattan townhouse under the watch of armed guards.
