After finally realizing that racism is an issue on the UMKC campus, Daphne will see race issues unfold among the student body on “Switched at Birth” Season 5, episode 5, “Occupy Truth.”

“With tensions running at an all-time high, the Black Student Union takes a stand against the university administration until their demands are heard,” the synopsis teases.

Last viewers saw of the Freeform series, the Black Student Union decided to go on a hunger strike after white students were given a slap on the wrist for creating a racist display on campus. In the promo for “Switched at Birth” Season 5, episode 5, several students can be seen chanting in a protest in what looks to be a campus building.

“Told in three chapters from the varying perspectives of Sharee (Bianca Bethune), Iris (Sharon Pierre-Louis) and Chris (Sam Adegoke), the students deal with their frustrations in different ways,” the synopsis says.

Although Chris just transferred into UMKC, Iris and Sharee have been dealing with campus racial issues for awhile and from the looks of the teaser clip, it looks like they have had enough.

“Iris pledges to continue her hunger strike until the students responsible for a racist display outside the Black Student Union are expelled, but her commitment has consequences on her health,” the synopsis states.

In episode 4, Iris seemed very passionate about the hunger strike but from the looks of the latest Freeform promo, she may have taken things too far. In the clip, Sharee looks worried after finding Iris unconscious on the floor.

Daphne (Katie Leclerc) can later be seen speaking to someone who could be Iris, telling the person, “Please, this is serious.” Could she be asking Iris to give up on her hunger strike?

“Sharee faces the pain of her own past as she tries to gather signatures and rally more students to get involved,” the synopsis says. In the promo, Regina (Constance Marie) can be seen encouraging Sharee who is in tears to share her story.

“Chris is torn between wanting to dazzle several baseball scouts at an upcoming game and standing with his fellow students to show solidarity,” the synopsis states. In the promo, Chris is seen being roughed up by officers as Bay (Vanessa Marano) and Travis (Ryan Lane) run to his side in an attempt to stop them.

Could his police attack be the reason why he’s debating risking his dreams of playing professional baseball?

“Switched at Birth” Season 5, episode 5 airs Tuesday, Feb. 28, at 9:01 p.m. EST on Freeform.
