Michelle Trachtenberg has revealed that she nearly played Bella Swan in the Twilight films, a role that has gone to Kristen Stewart.

According to Us Weekly, Trachtenberg, 26, made the claim on Wednesday while at the opening of LOLA in New York City.

There was definitely interest here and there because there's only so few pale girls in Hollywood, Trachtenberg told the celebrity magazine.

Trachtenberg said she knew director Catherine Hardwicke, who directed the first Twilight film in 2008, since the movie Thirteen.

I was actually supposed to star in that, but I was on Buffy at the time, Trachtenberg told Us Weekly.

The vampire slayer's little sister said she never got the chance to play Robert Pattinson's (Edward Cullen) love interest on screen because of schedules never worked out.

But Trachtenberg isn't losing any sleep over not playing the role of Bella.

I already have 'Buffy,' she told Us Weekly. I've already done the vampire thing.

Stewart took on the starring role of Bella Swan in Twilight when she was 18 years old.

Twilight saga is based on a series books written by Stephenie Meyer. The novel had a large following and by the time the movies hit theatre, Stewart and the rest of her cast mates became international stars.

Fans of the book were just about ready to see the intense chemistry from the book brought to the big screen.

And they weren't disappointed.

According to Businessweek, the all-time record for a three-day opening is $169.2 million. This was grossed by the final Harry Potter film. Twilight Breaking Dawn - Part 1 currently has the fifth biggest three-day opening with $139.5 million.

The other instalments in the Twilight film series continue to be a big hit with as the second film, New Moon, grossed $142.8 million in the three-day opening weekend.

The first Twilight film grossed $392 million worldwide. Eclipse, brought in more than $698 million in 2010.

So what do you think Twi-hards? Do you think Trachtenberg could have played a better Bella Swan than Stewart? Could she have done a better job at igniting the on-screen chemistry Pattinson and Stewart share?
