US and Australia started talks on Tuesday, in Washington, in an effort to provide cheaper flights across the trans-pacific route.

Australian Airline, Qantas, currently has the most non-stop services to the US.

Rival airlines such as Virgin Blue's V Australia and Singapore Airlines are also emerging into the market.

V-Australia requested for 10 weekly flights and placed an order for six aircraft.

Qantas still has the highest number of flights with 48 non-stop flights between US and Australia while its closest competitor United Airlines has 14 flights a week.

Singapore Airlines had several requests to fly the trans-Pacific route but were continuously rejected.
