Manchester United continued their dominance over Arsenal in the 2011-2012 Premier League season, as the Red Devils edged the Gunners, 2-1, in an intense match at Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Attacking midfielder Antonio Valencia headed the ball into the net off the excellent cross from Ryan Giggs just before the half-time whistle to give United the lead.

But Arsenal would level the match in the 71st minute with Robin van Persie's excellent left-footed shot slipped by a defender and beyond the reach of Anders Lindegaard. The goal was well set up following some efficient play from centre back Laurent Koscielny.

However, the Red Devils would storm back 10 minutes later with a goal from Danny Welbeck that sealed the victory for Sir Alex Ferguson's squad. Welbeck was able to score against questionable defending by Andrei Arshavin. After the game, Wenger was booed by some Arsenal supporters, and more than likely it had to do with his subsitituion of Arshavin for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

It was a deserving goal for Welbeck, who was denied a goal by Arsenal centre back Per Mertesacker, who slid to the goal line to save an open-net shot from Welbeck in the second half.

Arsenal took 14 shots with three on goal, while Manchester United took nine shots, with six on goal. Possession was nearly even.

It was a disappointing finish for Arsenal, who were looking to avenge an 8-2 loss to United back in August.
