The opening ceremonies of the 2012 London Olympics are set to begin on Friday, but Greece will be without one athlete that was scheduled to compete.

Triple jumper Voula Papachristou has been expelled from the games because of an inappropriate use of an inappropriate tweet.

With so many Africans in Greece, the West Nile mosquitoes will be getting home food!!! tweeted Papachristou. According to the Hellenic Olympic Committee, the statement was contrary to the values and ideas of the Olympic movement.

Papachristou also posted several retweets and videos promoting the views of Golden Dawn, an extremely right wing Greek political party that accounted for seven percent of votes in the country's most recent elections.

The athlete apologized on Twitter after she was punished for her actions.

I would like to express my heartfelt apologies for the unfortunate and tasteless joke I published on my personal Twitter account. I am very sorry and ashamed for the negative responses I triggered, since I never wanted to offend anyone, or to encroach human rights.

Multiple American athletes have gotten into trouble for their use of Twitter, though none have ever received such a harsh punishment. Papachristou's coach, George Pomaski, thinks the explusion was too harsh.

This is a big disappointment not only for her but for her family and for myself, and anyone involved in the Greek team,

Below are some pictures of the suspended athlete.
