Trying to cast your ballot before Election Day 2014 is over? In some states, voting can be tricky because states such as Texas and Michigan straddle time zones, and others like New Hampshire have varying poll closing times. Don’t let the confusion get to you. Instead, consult this guide for when the polls close in your area. Times listed are in Eastern standard time. If you're not sure where to go to vote, check out this list here.

6 p.m.

Polls close in parts of Indiana and Kentucky that are in the Eastern time zone.

7 p.m.

Polls close in Vermont, Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and portions of Indiana and Kentucky that are in the Central time zone. This time is also the earliest that polls close in North Dakota and New Hampshire. The latest North Dakota polls can stay open is 9 p.m. Eastern time, while the latest polls in New Hampshire close at 8 p.m., so it’s best to consult the secretary of state’s office in North Dakota and New Hampshire for more information.

7:30 p.m.

Polls close in Ohio, West Virginia, and North Carolina.

8 p.m.

Polls close in Maine, Massachusetts, most of New Hampshire, Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Illinois, Missouri and Oklahoma. Polls also close in most of Michigan except the area bordering Wisconsin and all but a tiny area of Kansas not in the Central time zone. Areas of South Dakota and most of Texas also have 8 p.m. Eastern time poll closings.

8:30 p.m.

Arkansas closes.

9 p.m.

Polls shutter in New York, Louisiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, parts of Texas in the Mountain time zone, parts of Michigan in the Central time zone and parts of South Dakota in the Mountain time zone.

10 p.m.

Polls close in Iowa, parts of Idaho in the Mountain time zone, Utah and Nevada. This is also the earliest time that polls close in Montana, so check with your local election office for accurate poll closing times.

11 p.m.

Washington, parts of Idaho in the Pacific time zone, Oregon, California and Hawaii close polls.

12 a.m.

The majority of Alaska, which is in the Alaska time zone, closes.

1 a.m.

Parts of Alaska in the Hawaii-Aleutian time zone close.
