A man who entered the Texas City Jaycees Tackle Time Fishing Tournament caught a massive hammerhead shark this weekend. It set a record for largest catch in the competition.

Tim McClellen, who has fished for 20 years, nabbed a 1,033-pound hammerhead shark Sunday in the 55th Annual Texas City Jaycees Tackle Time tournament Saturday. According to KXAN, the shark surpassed the Gulf of Mexico record weight of 871 pounds, which was set in 1980.

According to records, the biggest fish caught in Texas was a 1,129-pound tiger shark recorded in 1992. Last Saturday, Sergio Roque, another fisherman in the Tackle Time Fishing Tournament sponsored by the Texas City Jaycees, captured a 946-pound tiger shark.

The competition ran from June 30 to July 9 this year. President of the Texas City Jaycees club Blake Carroll told Fox News that the "ten days long competition is the biggest fundraiser of the year." It helped the club host community events during the year and by raising funds for the entire year. The Texas City Jaycees are in their 55th year, but the Jaycees have been around a lot longer than their chapter.

The Texas division was a part of the competition for years, but it will go down in the record books for having caught the biggest hammerhead shark. The club wrote a caption that celebrated the catch and thanked all the fishermen that participated in the tournament.
