A 14-year-old girl in India has given birth to a baby inside a police station while filing a complaint against her alleged rapist.

On Tuesday evening, the minor, accompanied by her relative, had gone to a police station in the Chhindwara town in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh to file a complaint against a 21-year-old fellow villager, Akash Yuvanati.

As per the complaint, the minor alleged that the accused had raped her around 9 months ago on the promise of marrying her. The 21-year-old had refused to marry the girl a few days ago and the survivor decided to register a rape complaint against him, reported the Times of India (TOI).

According to the police, the accused raped her in November or December last year. He also stopped her from filing a complaint for several months.

The survivor who had arrived at the station developed labor pain. Police said there was no time left for them to shift the girl to a hospital. “We decided to perform delivery at the hospital,” said a woman police constable to the Free Press Journal.

Local women and female police officers took her to an empty room within the station premises to help her with the birth.

“The girl suddenly started crying due to labor pain. We took her to a room at the police station. She gave birth to a baby within half an hour,” said police station in-charge Purva Chaurasia, reported Hindustan Times.

“We informed our seniors about it as soon as the girl had developed labor pain. They ensured that a green corridor and traffic between Kundipura police station and district hospital was cleared,” said Chaurasia to TOI.

The girl delivered a baby boy. The mother and the child were later shifted to the district hospital. Both of them are doing well.

“We zeroed in on the accused through mobile the tower location and he was immediately arrested. He was planning to escape after the news of the incident had reached him,” added the officer, TOI reported.

In a similar incident, a 24-year-old man accused of raping a woman later married the survivor in India's capital city of Delhi. However, he killed his wife six months after they got married. The woman’s family reported her missing last month. Upon being interrogated, the man admitted to strangling his wife to death.
