Google has a new CEO at the helm, and the 43-year-old is making waves with his new appointment. Sundar Pichai has moved into the top spot of the company, and here is everything you need to know about the man that is leading the mega search engine and technology company, as reported by PC Magazine.

  1. Born in Chennai, India, Pichai’s birth name is Pichai Sundararajan.
  2. His father was an electrical engineer, and his mother was a stenographer, where he was raised as a family of four in only two rooms.
  3. Pichai’s family didn’t have a phone until he was 12 years old. It was a rotary dial phone, which helped him to develop the skill of never forgetting a number.
  4. He was his high school’s cricket team captain. He went to high school in the state of Tamil Nadu, India.
  5. Pichai holds a degree in metallurgical engineering. He received his degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. He moved to the U.S. in 1993, where he received his master’s of science in material sciences from Stanford. He received his MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
  6. He is married to his high school girlfriend, Anjali. She came to join him in the U.S., and now they have a son and a daughter together.
  7. Pichai came to Google in April 2004. This was the same day that Gmail was introduced. Prior to joining Google, he worked for McKinsey & Company.
  8. At Google, one of the first jobs Pichai had was as product manager of the Google search toolbar used in other search engine browsers. Pichai was instrumental in convincing the company that it needed its own browser despite that CEO Eric Schmidt’s adamantly against it – hence Google Chrome.
  9. He’s run a series of products at Google including Gmail, Google Docs, Chrome OS and Android, Google Photos and Google Now.
  10. Pichai was a key part of the purchase of Nest by Google for $3.2 billion in 2014.
  11. He has served as the master of ceremonies at Google I/O for the past few years. In 2018, he led a two-hour keynote address.
  12. Over the last few months, Pichai was senior vice president at Google in charge of all major products at the company.
  13. He was reportedly in the running to replace Steve Ballmer as Microsoft CEO.
  14. Twitter tried to hire Pichai, but Google offered him $50 million in stocks to stay.
  15. His Twitter handle is @sundarpichai. He has over 164,000 followers and tweets mostly about soccer.
