A teenage boy was found dead inside a freezer at his grandmother’s house in Brazil on Monday.

The body of the 15-year-old was discovered by his cousin, who was searching for the teen as he did not turn up for work. According to local media reports, the victim was identified as Jose Rosa.

When Rosa's cousin, 20-year-old Carlos Rodrigues arrived at the home in Vila Adelina, he found the body inside the freezer. The victim was wearing just his underpants, 7News reported. Rodrigues was accompanied by Rosa's brother Leonardo.

The freezer was in the rear garden and was not connected to a power source.

“I thought it was strange, he’d been missing since early. I called everyone and no one knew anything," Leonardo told local media.

According to 7News, Jose's grandmother was not at home at the time of the incident. The house where the incident took place usually was locked. However, Rosa's grandmother kept the key in a hidden place that was known to the teen.

Rodrigues suspected something was wrong when he saw the freezer in the back garden with some blood around.

“It was already smelling bad. I opened the freezer and found him there sitting in just his underpants," Rodrigues told 7News, adding he called the emergency services who arrived at the scene and confirmed Rosa's death.

Police said they have searched the property and seized a notebook, a mobile phone, and a knife from the scene. Investigating officers suspect the teen was not alone at the house as there were several chairs placed in the garden. A hose was also found at the scene, which may have been used to clean up.

The police added there were no obvious signs of violence, 7News reported.

An investigation is underway into the incident and no arrests have been made as of Wednesday.

Leonardo described Rosa as “a person who didn’t have problems, he didn’t have beef with anyone, everyone liked him.”

Police told local media that Rosa didn’t have a criminal record, while his friends and family described him as a calm and happy person.
