3-Month-Old Baby Girl Bitten To Death By Snake Which Hid Inside The Folds Of Her Blanket

In a tragic incident, a three-month-old baby was bitten to death by a deadly snake which reportedly hid inside the folds of her blanket. The snake also bit the child's father, who was carrying her in the arms.

Police said the baby girl, hailing from the Indian state of Telangana, was rushed to the hospital Saturday night after she began to cry inconsolably, reported ETV Bharat.

Prior to that, the baby had been in hospital after suffering from a severe lung infection. After a week-long stay, the child had just returned to her home when the snake bite happened.

According to reports, her father noticed that the child woke up suddenly and began to cry inconsolably. However, he didn't realize the severity of the issue until he noticed foam on the sides of the baby's mouth. The panicked man rushed the baby, covered in the blanket, to a nearby hospital.

The baby lost her life on the way to the hospital. It was then that the father noticed the reptile slithering off the folds of the blanket. However, by then, the reptile had already bitten him.

Doctors confirmed the child was dead on arrival at the hospital. The father was admitted to the hospital and his condition is said to be stable.

However, reports said doctors were unsure whether the baby died of a snake bite or other reason. Hence, the child's body was moved to a government hospital for autopsy and further tests.

Later, local people identified the snake as a keelback, also known as Asiatic water snake, but it has not been confirmed. Found almost throughout mainland India, the species are often found near homes and gardens. They are known to be very fast, jumpy, and aggressive. The bites are painful as the reptile has sharp teeth. There are both venomous and non-venomous varieties in the keelback species.

A similar incident was reported recently from India wherein a deadly cobra wrapped itself around a
6-year-old girl's neck for two hours before it bit the child. However, she miraculously survived.

A video of the incident which went viral showed the terrified little girl lying on a mattress on the floor of her house with the snake slithering around her neck.
