BTS members are set to appear as monster hunters in a new webtoon that's slated for release next year.

Hybe Entertainment, the South Korean boyband's management agency, made an announcement Thursday that the group will be featured in the online comic series "7Fates: CHAKHO," which will be launched on Naver's webtoon portal on Jan. 15, 2022. It follows BTS' hugely successful time travel webtoon "Save Me," which dropped in 2019.

"It is an urban fantasy set in a city in the near future and inspired by the tiger hunters of the Joseon Dynasty. It will combine old stories of tradition with Hybe's own imagination," the agency said as per Koreaboo.

The upcoming webtoon will tell the story of seven men who are bound by fate to rid their community of "monsters."

South Korea was once home to a high population of Siberian tigers who attacked communities, ruthlessly striking fear among residents who were almost powerless against the hungry tigers. To address the problem, King Sejong formed the Chakhogapsa — the tiger hunters — in 1421.

The Chakhogapsa were specially appointed soldiers with exceptional hunting abilities who could hit their target even while riding horses.

"Its plot will draw on old stories about the tiger hunters while creating a brand-new story for readers to enjoy. Much like 'Save Me,' '7Fates: Chakho' follows seven boys, the tiger-hunting Chakho, whose destinies are intertwined. Together, the Chakho face trials and tribulations while taking down the 'Beom,'" the agency said further.

"Beom" is the Korean word for tiger. It's worth noting, however, that "Beom" in the upcoming webtoon pertains to monsters from Korean folklore.

In a clip posted on the group's official Twitter page, members of the group explained their roles in the upcoming webtoon.

"Keep an eye on each story of the tiger hunters to discover their tragic fate, and to take revenge for losing their loved ones," RM said.

Jungkook described the duality of one character's identity as being part human and part "Beom."

"This character is put in an awkward situation where he has to catch 'Beom' using the ability of 'Beom,' but at the same time, he's not to be recognized as a 'Beom,'" he said.

Meanwhile, Jimin said "7Fates: CHAKHO" will feature creatures from Korean folklore including the "Dokkaebi" (trickster goblins) and the "Bulgasalyi" (a monster that feeds on metal scraps).
