The verdict is finally in! Fox’s new drama series “9-1-1” is getting a second season as revealed in the announcement made by the network on Tuesday.

“With a bold concept, award-winning stars and a flawless execution, Ryan [Murphy], Brad [Falchuck] and Tim [Minear] have done it again. They have tapped into the cultural zeitgeist and reimagined the procedural as only they could, bringing it to life with a dream team of actors led by Angela [Bassett], Peter [Krause] and Connie [Britton],” Fox Television Group CEOs and chairmen Gary Newman and Dana Walden said, as quoted by Variety.

The Fox big bosses also expressed their gratitude to all the people involved in the series and shared that they are pleased with how the series is establishing a strong following. “This is storytelling at its best and we’re so pleased that it’s resonated with our audience. We’d like to thank everyone involved with this production for their stellar work, and we look forward to another thrilling season of ‘9-1-1.’”

The renewal for a second run doesn’t come as a surprise though. The show’s premiere was the network’s biggest since “Empire” in 2015. Its pilot drew more than 15 million viewers in seven-day multi-platform viewing, as per Fox. In Nielsen Live +7, “9-1-1” drew 10.7 million viewers. Furthermore, the procedural drama is hailed as this season’s No. 1 new broadcast series on social media. In its second week, “9-1-1” continued to attract numerous viewers, with episode 2 drawing 11.6 million viewers, according to Deadline.

This week, “9-1-1” is back with episode 3, titled “This Is A Brotherhood.” Based on the preview clip for the new installment, it’s going to be a tough hour for Bassett’s Athena Grant. The video apparently starts with Grant finding her daughter May (Corinne Massiah) unconscious on her bedroom floor. The teaser then shows Grant calling the emergency hotline asking for an ambulance to be sent to her home as quickly as possible.

The synopsis for the all-new episode mentions that while Grant tries to cope up with what has happened to her daughter, Britton’s Abby Clark will be confronted by a life-changing decision for her mother who has Alzheimer’s. Elsewhere, Krause’s Bobby Nash and his team will respond to an emergency situation at a children’s birthday party.

“9-1-1” episode 3 airs Wednesday, Jan. 17, at 9 p.m. EST on Fox.
