A new teaser trailer for Fox’s all-new series, “9-1-1,” is out. From the looks of things, the premiere season is going to be intense and action-packed with Angela Bassett taking the lead as field sergeant Athena Grant and Connie Britton starring as 911 operator Abby Clark.

The preview starts with a calm and collected Clark receiving an emergency call. However, the snippet then turns 180 degrees when it shows Grant engaging in a physical altercation with husband Michael (Rockmond Dunbar). The sneak peek gets more intense when action-packed scenes of the characters responding to various emergencies start flashing.

Ahead of the premiere, Bassett opened up to New York Daily News about what it’s like portraying an L.A. street cop now that she’s about to turn 60 next year. “I love doing action,” she said. “Since I’m not 21, there’s some, ‘Let me get to the gym so I can do it.’ But I love to defy expectations. I want people to see this is what 59 can look like, what 59 can do.”

As to what drew her to accepting the role, Bassett gushed that it’s due mainly to the fact that the new series doesn’t follow the traditional procedural drama. “One of the things that most appealed to me about the show is that it’s also about the characters,” Bassett explained. “These are people we call when we need help, and we see here where they need help themselves.”

Meanwhile, Britton admitted when spoke with Los Angeles Times that she was at first hesitant to join the series despite being very eager to work with her good friend Bassett. According to her, she was taken aback when show creator Ryan Murphy called her to do the procedural series. Britton then revealed that procedural is something that she could never do.

Nevertheless, Britton accepted the role since she likes to do anything with Murphy. She also confessed that she’s enjoying the experience thus far. “So far it’s just been a really interesting experience and challenging. As an actor, that’s always a really important element to any decision I make.”

“9-1-1” centers on the lives of characters from the three branches of first responders: the Police Department, the Fire Department and the 9-1-1 emergency team. Apart from Bassett and Britton, viewers will also be introduced to Peter Krause’s Bobby Nash, the captain of a small firehouse squad.

The upcoming series is a another product of the team-up between Murphy and Brad Falchuk. The renowned producers are responsible for bringing shows like “Glee,” “American Horror Story,” “American Crime Story” and “Scream Queens” to the small screen.

“9-1-1” premieres Jan. 3, Wednesday, at 9/8c on Fox.
