A 9-year-old boy was charged, Tuesday, with first-degree murder after stabbing his 5-year-old sister, earlier in January. He appeared in a court in Ocala, Florida, on Wednesday.

Police, in a report, said the mother had left both the children in the house and had gone to collect the mail and get some candy from the neighbors. On returning, she found her son stabbing her daughter after which she grabbed the knife away from the child and took the wounded girl to the bathroom. The officials at the Ocala police department, after investigation, concluded that she was stabbed multiple times and was airlifted to a hospital.

Local reports said the girl was admitted to the University of Florida Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville. She was discharged from the hospital on Feb. 7.

Police said the boy had previously thought of killing his sister two days before the incident occurred. The boy told the investigators that the thought of killing his sister was there in his mind for the two days leading to the gruesome event. The mother of the children said she heard the boy scream “Die, die!” while stabbing his sister.

It was reported that the boy was being kept under detainment and was represented by the public defender's office. The names of the people involved were not revealed.

The court said the judgment will be given only after reviewing the results of the assessment performed on the child which would clarify his understanding of the concept of the decision and whether he can interpret it or not.
