  • Liverpool could get a parade to celebrate their 19th league title
  • Liverpool have sealed the 2019-20 Premier League title race with 7 games to spare
  • Klopp has become the first-ever German manager to win the Premier League

Liverpool FC, who have won their first-ever Premier League title and first league title in 30 long years, will reportedly get a parade to celebrate the special feat.

After second-placed Manchester City lost 1-2 to Chelsea on Thursday in their Premier League fixture, Liverpool officially were declared the 2019-20 Premier League champions. Jurgen Klopp’s side had missed out on the title by just one point last season but there was no stopping them this campaign as they have dropped just seven points and have sealed the title race with seven games to spare for them.

Despite the coronavirus restrictions, thousands of the Reds fans poured into the street outside Anfield and in the city center to celebrate the moment that had eluded them for three decades.

The Liverpool City Council has confirmed to Liverpool Echo that the city will hold a title parade for the 19-time champions but the date can be decided only when the spread of the deadly virus is under control.

“We are looking at plans on how a title win can be celebrated fully and would honor the club’s and fan’s ambitions to have a parade - this will only happen when it is safe to do so, lockdown restrictions have eased and the infection rate of the virus has been reduced,” a spokeswoman said in an interview.

Considering what big deal soccer is in the U.K., the Liverpool council has marked the Premier League win by having landmarks across the city lit up in red.

By winning the league with seven games to spare, Liverpool have won the title earlier than any other side has ever managed before.

The record previously was held jointly by Manchester United, Everton, and Manchester City for winning their respective league with five games to spare. The other Merseyside club, Everton, achieved the feat in the 1984-85 season. The Red Devils were the first ones to claim the record in the 1907-08 campaign before they repeated it in the 2000-01 season.

Two years ago, Pep Guardiola’s City emulated it when the Etihad side finished the season with a total of 100 points ahead of second-placed Man Utd, who had managed 19 points lesser.
