SHIELD Daz Crawford
Daz Crawford spoke to International Business Times about his experience on "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." Season 3. James Arlen O’Keefe

“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” viewers are seeing an all-new Hydra in Season 3, and actor Daz Crawford is heavily involved in the evil organization’s rebuild. The English actor plays Kebo, who was first seen in the Season 2 finale when Ward (Brett Dalton) knocked him out after questioning his leadership. In the new season, Kebo has clearly smartened up and was seen helping Ward torture people for information. It looks like Kebo is Ward’s new right-hand man, so we went to Crawford to get the scoop on Ward's plans. Crawford spoke to International Business Times via email about working for the Marvel TV show and doing his own stunts.

International Business Times: Are you a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Were you familiar with “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” before or did you catch up once you were cast?

Daz Crawford: I have been huge fan of Marvel since I was a little kid. I even played Lighthammer in “Blade 2”! I had also watched a couple episodes of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” before working on the show. I found it very addictive…the intertwining stories are fascinating.

IBT: What was your audition process like? Did you know that they’d bring you back this year when you first got the job?

Crawford: The audition came through my agent as they usually do. There was nothing unusual about that, only that I was only given the sides (lines) 15 minutes before the audition, so there wasn’t a lot of time to familiarize myself but everyone is in the same boat. Whatever it was I did, it worked. I had no clue I was coming back in the new season, it was a big surprise for me. I was actually in London when I received a message from my agent letting me know.

IBT: We only saw Kebo briefly last year. How often will we see you in Season 3?

Crawford: Well, as you know, you will see Kebo in the new season. As for how often, not even I know the answer to that. I’m sure the fans will enjoy what they see…I hope so anyway.

IBT: Does your character get along with Ward? Last time we saw Kebo, Ward knocked him out. What’s their relationship like now?

Crawford: Great question! Ward gave me a good hiding in that show, how would you feel if your boss gave you a good kicking like that? I’m keeping that to myself.

IBT: Kebo thought Hydra was beyond being rebuilt last year. Does he really believe Ward can rebuild the organization or is he just trying to avoid getting killed?

Crawford: As you know he lost Kara, so I’m not really sure what his agenda is now. It could be revenge, anger, betrayal, a number of circumstances are probably fueling him…I wouldn’t know which though. Ward tells me what I need to know and I get on with it. As for trying not to be killed, I would think that would be on most people’s agenda in life.

IBT: Is Hydra’s goal still world domination or are they more focused on revenge now that Ward is running things?

Crawford: Ward is my boss, he runs Hydra his way. What his goal is, what's in his head, what his ultimate goal is…the fans will have to wait and see.

IBT: You enjoy doing stunts, so is “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” giving you a lot of action scenes? Are there any fun or challenging fight scenes coming up?

Crawford: I’ve always enjoyed doing my own stunts in previous projects. As an ex-gladiator (U.K.) familiar with weapons (swords), training in Kung-Fu, and an ex-Olympic boxer, I get a buzz being able to do them again in "S.H.I.E.L.D." Sometimes productions won’t let me, as they consider it too dangerous. It’s nice to know that I can complete a scene without having to have a stunt double. Having said that, there was always a stunt double on hand, just in case. There are some really exciting scenes to watch out for, I’m sure they will keep the fans on their toes.

IBT: Is there anything else you can tease about Season 3?

Crawford: Season 3 looks to be a fantastic journey for everyone involved. I’m sure the fans will be talking about the shows each week as they are going to be very exciting and nail-biting experiences.

IBT: Let’s talk a little about where fans can see you next. You have a film called “Vanquisher” coming out next year. Can you talk a little about your role in the movie? Do you think “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” fans will enjoy it?

Answer: The “Vanquisher” is a science-fiction movie. In this project I have super powers. I think the fans who like “S.H.I.E.L.D” will also like this type of movie. There are also a couple of other projects which are being shown currently. “Awaken” is a thriller with a great cast, set in the Belizean jungle about organ smuggling. It has many twists and turns climaxing to something very unexpected. I also have another project “Dawn Patrol” with Scott Eastwood. This thriller set in a far East desert and Los Angeles…it also has a most unexpected ending.

“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 3 airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. EDT on ABC.
