Alec Baldwin received intense backlash after he commented on Gillian Anderson’s accent to the point that he decided to deactivate his Twitter account.

Baldwin recorded a video on his phone and admitted that he left Twitter. He made the decision after the netizens went after him for alleging that Anderson switched accents.

"Of course you can't do any irony on Twitter. You can't do any irony in the United States anymore, because the United States is such an uptight, stressed-out place and unpleasant place right now," he said in a video posted on Instagram Wednesday night.

The "Beetlejuice" actor apologized for the offense that his comment may have caused without mentioning Anderson's name. He also said he was actually a fan of the artist and meant no disrespect in his statement earlier.

"The person I was referring to is someone I am a huge fan of.. and that comment was meant to just illustrate the point that multicultural expressions of anyone... that's your business," he continued.

Baldwin joked about Anderson's accent when she used an American accent in her acceptance speech at the Golden Globe Awards Sunday. She won the award for her performance in "The Crown" and many were confused when they listened to her speech because they thought she was British and had a natural English accent.

Baldwin's wife, Hilaria, also faced the same issue for allegedly pretending to be a Spaniard by faking her Spanish accent.

Baldwin also said he left Twitter due to the negativity on the microblogging site.

"The problem with Twitter is, it's a lot of haters. It's one-third interesting posts... one-third tedious, puerile nonsense, and then it's one-third abject hatred and malice and unpleasantness," he added.

He ended his video by welcoming his newborn daughter, Lucia, who was born via a surrogate. For "The Boss Baby" star, having kids is the "most rewarding thing I've ever done."

"The good thing about being an older dad is work is less important to me now, I don't really need to work too much right now. I've worked a lot... I've tried to balance that a lot with my wife and kids," Baldwin said. "I love my children more than I could possibly put into words.”

Hilaria announced the arrival of their sixth child on Instagram in February. Many were surprised because she just gave birth to their fifth baby five months ago. At the time of the announcement, Hilaria did not mention if they got her through adoption or via a surrogate.
